P.A.R.T.Y. is a nationally recognized injury prevention program that has been running in Wood Buffalo for over 10 years, presented to all local grade 9 students. The program focuses on injury prevention, safe choices, and safe driving. The goal is to provide young people with hands on, interactive experiences about trauma (injury) so they will recognize potential injury-risk situations, make prevention-oriented choices, and adopt behaviors that minimize unnecessary risk. This is important because injury is the #1 cause of death of teenagers in Canada.
During P.A.R.T.Y. Program we run a mock collision where the students witness an impaired driver being arrested after a severe crash and a critically injured victim being extricated from a vehicle by Regional Emergency Services. 1 Victim is pronounced DOA, 1 Victim is extracted and 1 slightly injured driver will try to flee the scene and be arrested by RCMP. There will be fake blood and fake wounds applied to the actors and the 2 victims will be surrounded by loud machinery (including the JAWS of life), broken glass, and possible cold weather. Actors must be comfortable in their rolls by screaming, yelling, etc. in front of the group.
More information will be provided including a timeline of how things will take place. Volunteers will most likely be done by 10:30 but plan to be available until 11 just incase.
