The Northern Lights Health Foundation’s 7th Annual Hospital Bed Races, presented by Birch Mountain Enterprises LP are a fun and entertaining family event where teams of four race in head-to-head heats while pushing a hospital bed 50 meters, with the fastest team winning the coveted golden bedpan trophy.
As part of the PIT CREW, you play a vital role in ensuring the races flow fluidly. Some of your duties include, but are not limited to:
- Keep track of the teams racing order/answer questions about the race schedule
- Ensure the next two teams are behind the start line
- Do a walk-around of the beds (check for broken parts, ensure bed bug is secure, no deficiencies, etc) and report any problems to the volunteer coordinator
- Conduct a final look-over of each team for tripping hazards
- Review the race rules with both teams (orientation will be provided prior to the start of the shift)
- Signal to the Race Starter that the teams are “ready-to-go”
- Work under the direction of the Volunteer Coordinator/Assistant and a NLHF staff member
Skills & Qualifications:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organization skills
- Ability to be on your feet for an extended period of time
- Must be comfortable using a walkie-talkie
