What We Do

Wood Buffalo Wellness Society has two areas of focus Mark Amy Treatment Centre and Community Services. The Mark Amy Centre uses an Integrated Biopsychosocial Model of treatment for the management of substance use and behavioral addictions. A synthesis of several approaches and strategies are practiced in order to achieve positive outcomes including: Trauma-Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the 12-Step Program, traditional First Nations cultural practices, participation in healthy social activities, and a focus on physical wellness through diet and activities. The program ranges in length, but is a minimum of 8 weeks long. Community Services focuses on moving people out of homelessness, through Housing First, Rapid Rehousing, and Outreach. Housing First is an approach that centers on providing individuals and families who are homeless with support services to help them maintain a home. The goal is to help people become better able to keep themselves safe and healthy by providing supports over a period of time. To be part of the program an individual or family must be homeless, and living in a shelter, on the streets, in an unsafe living environment or at risk of homelessness.
