The Northern Lights Health Foundation’s 8th Annual Hospital Bed Races, presented by Birch Mountain Enterprises LP are a fun and entertaining family event where teams of four race in head-to-head heats while pushing a hospital bed 50 meters, with the fastest team winning the coveted golden bedpan trophy.

As part of the SET-UP CREW, you play a vital role in ensuring our supplies and equipment are safely unloaded and set up in the appropriate area(s) in a timely manner. Some of your duties include, but are not limited to:

·         Assisting with the unloading of gear, equipment, tools and supplies from vehicles

·         Moving gear, equipment, tools and supplies to designated area(s)

·         Various set up activities could include: set up stations (example: registration, photo booth, first aid), placing posters or signage around the venue, setting up fencing, setting tables and chairs, decorating.

·         Tidying up areas

·         Work under the direction of an NLHF staff member

Skills and qualifications:

·         Ensure each team member has either previously submitted their race waiver (will be noted on the team tracker) or get them to fill out the waiver at registration

·         Verify all team participants names with each Team Captain

·         Hand our participant bags once the team member has been officially checked in (verified by Team Captain and waiver signed) *One per person.

·         Round up the teams prior to the start of their race

·         Hype up the teams and get them excited to race

·         Ensure the race track is free and clear of any debris or hazard prior to the start each race

·         Ensure the audience, teammates, and other viewers are always behind the viewing stanchions

·         Report any hazards on the race track to the Race Starter (as needed)

·         Collect the beds from a finished race and quickly bring them to the Pit Crew located near the start line

·         Work under the direction of the Volunteer Coordinator/Assistant and a NLHF staff member
